Our history

The Don Bosco Foundation was born on March 6, 2002 in Quito, Ecuador, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Padre Pío Baschirotto who, together with others and the charitable help of the Licht und Schatten Association of Germany, consolidated the Integral Development Center Alegría de Vivir “Laura Vicuña” Early Childhood Center to the north in Bellavista de Calderón and Casa Amigos de Don Bosco to the south in Chillogallo.

Mission

Execute all activities that, not being prohibited by law, contribute to the achievement of the objectives; participate in the management of programs and projects developed by other organizations and institutions leading to human development and social integration.

Vision

Promote the common good, develop initiatives in the social sector, aimed at achieving human development and social integration, especially of the most vulnerable and excluded sectors of the economic and social processes, according to the spirit and charism of Don Bosco.

Before 2022 it was known as Asociación Ecuador Licht Und Schatten (Light and Shadow), but as of June 2022 it was recognized by the competent German authority to change its name to Fundación Ecuador Licht Und Schatten (Ecuador Luz y Sombra), a non-profit organization founded in 1995 on the initiative of Ms. Sissi Pöschl in the city of Landshut - Bavaria (Germany).

On one of Sissi's trips to Ecuador she saw the great problems of many children in Ecuador and decided to help the poorest of Calderon (north of Quito) with the support of Father Pio Baschirotto.

Meet Don Bosco

Patron saint of Don Bosco Foundation

John Bosco, also known as Don Bosco (1815 - 1888), was a 19th century Italian priest and educator who helped young people in need. He founded the Salesian Congregation, which built schools and training centers in many countries around the world. He also promoted an educational system called the "preventive system" and wrote many books to help young people and defend the Catholic faith.

Don Bosco was highly respected by the civil and religious authorities of his time and his country. After his death, he was canonized and is considered the "Father, Teacher and Friend of the Young". The Salesian Family is one of the largest Catholic groups in the world and there are works of Don Bosco in 134 countries.
